As a business owner, you make plans. You bring new ideas to life and can’t wait to share them with the world. You create marketing calendars, research the best times to share, analyze statistics—everything to ensure your work reaches as many people as possible.
The marketing plan for the Emmetsburg Celtics Collection was beautifully interrupted by the Laker Strong Collection. The outpouring of love and support for the Iowa Lakes Baseball team, their families, and our community has been overwhelming. Thanks to your purchases, Five Island Life Clothing Co. is donating $250 to the Support Iowa Lakes Baseball Team fund, organized by team mom Angella Wells.
I’ve struggled this week. In addition to the bus accident, it feels like families in our community suffer a disproportionate amount of tragedy. Maybe that’s statistically true, maybe it just feels that way because our lives are so closely woven together.
I’ve spent a lot of time staring at my marketing calendar, wondering how to show up with the same sense of fun, laughter, and lightness I felt launching the Emmetsburg Celtics Collection just three weeks ago. One quote kept coming back to me—words from team founder and star player John McCain:
“You go along in this work-a-day world, and you need something to laugh about. You need to make people smile.” John McCain, Emmetsburg Democrat / Reporter, Oct 1, 1992
Our day-to-day lives can leave us weary. They can be heavy. But time and experience have taught me that few things unite us more than sorrow and laughter. And so I’m allowing John’s words to guide this transition—from heartbreak back to lightheartedness—knowing that one does not negate the other.
If you haven’t already, I’d love for you to join us on Facebook. We’re just 15 days away from Emmetsburg’s St. Pat’s celebration, and there are so many Celtics stories still to share.
Cheers, Friends. May we find a way to make one another smile through the dark times, always.
Love, Kelly
